April 18th, 2009 AMSA Mini Sprints Results and story

Rod Henning makes it 2-2 with AMSA feature win at Lawrenceburg.

27 AMSA mini-sprints were on hand at The Lawrenceburg Speedway for opening night at The Burg. Although the AMSA had already run one race, they were more than ready to race the high-banks on the 3/8 mile oval. Rod Henning , the Middletown, Ohio native was already off to a great start when he won the feature at Twin Cities earlier this month. Henning was looking for continued success in the night’s 20 Lap Mini-Sprint Feature. The green flag dropped with defending series champion Dustin Hueston on the pole with Sam Ashworth on the outside. Ashworth jumped to the lead on lap one, and led the first 7 laps. The scariest incident of the event came on lap 5 when Greg Nicholas’ mini-sprint went barrel rolling down the front stretch. Nicholas was able to walk away under his own power. With the green flag waving again, Beau Stewart moved around Ashworth and took his turn up front. With Stewart leading, Rod Henning began to close in looking for his second win in a row. Henning made the move to the inside of Stewart out of turn 4 on lap 11 and never looked back. Henning pulled away for the feature win. In victory lane, a very excited Henning said he was ready to make a run for the 2009 AMSA Championship. Following Henning across the line were Ryan Braughton, Beau Stewart, Sam Ashworth, and Drew Pollock. Heat race winners were Henning, Austin Archdale, and Stewart. Kevin Roberts Sr. won the B main.
