Gardner wins after making last lap pass!

26 Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars were

on hand for another night of points racing for

one of The Burg’s regular classes.  Heat race

winners were Damion Gardner, Ryan Pace,

and Brent Beauchamp.  Joss Moffatt would

win the B-Main.  What had been an already

exciting night of racing at the Burg would

keep getting better as the feature field was

lining up.  19 cars were set to start the 25 lap

feature race.  Gardner and Pace would line up

on the front row at the drop of the green.

Pace would take the lead from his outside

front row starting spot.  It didn’t look like

Pace’s lead was going to last for long, when

Dave Darland would go for the lead on lap 1

in turn 3.  As Darland was trying to slide in

front of Pace in turn 4, his car shot back up

against the race track into the wall and came

to a rest upside down.  It was a tough break

for one of sprint car racing’s all time top

drivers, but he was uninjured.  Pace suffered

minor damage when he clipped the Darland

car trying to get by.  Ryan Pace was able to

continue, and for most of the race, Pace

looked like he would win his first sprint

feature of his career.  Behind Pace, Damion

Gardner Jerry Coons, Jr., and Robert Ballou

were battling it out lap after lap.  With Laps

winding down, Ballou would lose control in

turn 3, and flip his sprint into the fence in

what was a very scary looking incident.

Ballou was able to walk away under his own

power.  The green flag would come out with

just 3 laps remaining.  For the next 2 laps,

Gardner was trying to get underneath Pace,

but Pace was always able to close the door.

Entering turn 3 on the last lap, Gardner was

able to slip underneath Pace for the lead, and

the win!  He would only lead 1 lap, but it

would be the only one that mattered.   Pace

came home second, followed by Jerry Coons,

Jr., Bill Rose, and Joss Moffatt.  The

Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprints return to the

track on Saturday may 30.

Gharst wins MASS feature at Lawrenceburg!

The O’reilly Midwest All Star Sprints made

their annual trip to the Lawrenceburg

Speedway and brought with them 24 of the

best drivers MASS has to offer.  First up for

the MASS Sprints was qualifying where last

year’s feature winner, Paul May set quick time

with a lap of 12.064.  Heat race winners were

Jerrod Hull, Danny Smith, and Alex Shanks.

Tom Busch won the B-Main and Bill Rose was

the dash winner.  The feature field was set

with 20 winged sprints set to battle it out for

30 laps.  The green flag would drop with Kaley

Gharst driving the #51 Webb Sprint who

would jump to the lead.  Jumping out to quite

a large lead, Gharst, began slicing and dicing

his way through the field as he started

lapping the back half of the field.  Long time

winged sprint veteran, Danny Smith was on

the prowl chasing Gharst.  Lap after lap, the

lead was shrinking, as Smith was reeling him

in.  Just about the time Smith was getting

ready to make a bid for the lead, a couple of

slower cars, spun in front of the race leaders.

Gharst was able to squeak by, but Smith was

not so lucky, and got collected in the accident

ending his chances for the win.  After Smith,

who arguably was the fastest car on the track

was eliminated from contention; Kaley Gharst

had no trouble leading the rest of the way on

his way to the feature victory.  Gharst led all

30 laps and won for the second time in his

short MASS career.  Finishing behind Gharst

was Ronnie Blair, Jordan Goldsberry, AJ Bruns,

 and Paul May.

Finally… A Win for Stewart!

Beau Stewart was tired of finishing second.

Last week, Stewart was so close to winning

but came up just short behind Rod Henning.

Would Stewart get his redemption?  The

AMSA Mini-sprints had 27 cars on hand at

Lawrenceburg.  Rod Henning, Beau Stewart,

and Scott Fasse were heat race winners.  Ian

Beveridge won the B-main.  The feature’s

story would be a tale of two stories:  Would

Rod “Hot Rod” Henning win his third in a

row?  Would Beau Stewart finally be able to

get around Henning and win a feature?  Drew

Pollock was trying to write his own story and

he took the lead on the opening lap.  On Lap 4

it looked as though Henning was going for

#3.  He passed Pollock and had little trouble

keeping the others behind him.  This was no

surprise as Henning has never had trouble

keeping his competitors behind him.  As laps

were winding down, Beau Stewart was not

letting Henning get too far out of sight.  Every

lap he seemed to get a little bit closer to

Henning, even making slight contact with

Henning a couple different times.  The White

flag waved, and Stewart again drove low in

turns 1 and 2 to get underneath Henning but

Henning was able to lead down the

backstretch.  Into turn 3 Stewart drove hard

underneath Henning and was able to get

alongside and beat Henning to the line by a

matter of feet!  Stewart got what he was

looking for last week, and is now set to give

Henning a run for his money in the AMSA

Mini-sprints.  Henning finished second

followed by Jeff Barnhart, Dustin Hueston and

David Dorsett.  The AMSA Mini-sprints return

to the Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday

May 23.

Miller returns to victory lane at The Burg!

The Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders made

their first trip ever to The Lawrenceburg

Speedway, and they sure didn’t disappoint in

their first appearance.  17 NRA Sprinters were

ready to put on a great race for the fans.

Heat race winners were Butch Schroeder and

Luke Hall.  The feature field was now set, and

the interesting thing about the lineup was the

that the NRA inverted 11 cars, so the fast

guys were all starting around mid pack, which

meant the racing was going to be extra

exciting.  Kent Wolters would start on the pole

for the 25 lap feature race.  Wolters would

jump to the lead bringing along Mike Miller

and Neil Shepherd.  Mike Miller, a former

track champion at Lawrenceburg in a non-

winged sprint car, would pass Wolters for the

lead on lap 8.  All eyes however, were on

Danny Smith, who was making his move to the

front.  Lap after lap he closed in on Miller.  It

looked like he was getting ready to take the

lead away from Miller, when it appeared

lighting struck twice!  A couple of slower cars

spun in front of him, and Smith had to stop to

avoid hitting the wrecked cars.  It was the

second feature of the night where it looked

like Smith had the best car, but bad luck

would bite him.  Smith would be able to

restart, but would not have enough time to

catch Miller who was not challenged the rest

of the way.  Mike Miller won his first non-

winged sprint feature at Lawrenceburg,

several years ago, would also win for the first

time in a winged sprint car.  Both of these

firsts came at Lawrenceburg.  Darren Long,

Neil Shepherd, Butch Schroeder, and Jared

Horstman would round out the top 5.
