Coons finally takes Checkered

     at Lawrenceburg!

Jerry Coons Jr. had never visited victory lane

in a sprint Car.  The defending USAC National

Sprint Car Champion was on hand at

Lawrenceburg Speedway driving a USAC

midget as well as the famous Hoffman Sprint

Car on their home track.  One could say Jerry

had a relatively easy night in the sprint car as

he went out and won his heat race, then

started on the pole of the 25 lap feature and

led every lap.  Of course, it wasn’t that easy,

but the “easy” assessment is not that far off.

Coons, Jr. took the lead going into turn one,

and pulled away from the rest of the field.

Coon’s closest racing was lapping the back of

the field when he made contact a couple

different times with some of the lapped

traffic.  Behind Coons, Jr. the race for second

was a good one.   Joss Moffatt controlled the

runner up spot for several laps before fading

near the end to finish fifth.  Levi Jones, who

started back in row 5 was slicing and dicing

through the field trying to catch Coons.

Unfortunately for Jones, Coons had already

built up the lead he needed to hold on and

take the checkered flag.  Jones finished

second followed by Shane Hmiel, Brady Short,

 and Moffatt.  23 Lawrenceburg Chevrolet

Sprint Cars were on hand and competed in the

feature.  Heat race winners were Coons, Jr.,

Shawn Westerfeld, and Joss Moffatt.  The

Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars will be

back on the dirt next Saturday, June 20.

AMSA MINI SPRINTS

Fasse wins #2 at The Burg!

Scott Fasse was in victory lane in 2008 at

Lawrenceburg, and once you win, it only

makes you want to win again.  It was not an

easy win for Scott, but clearly one he earned.

The Green flag would drop with all 20 AMSA

mini-sprints set to take the green flag.  When

the race started, Ryan Broughton, who started

on the outside of row 2 drove his way to the

lead down the backstretch on lap 1.  Several

drivers followed Broughton closely around

trying to wrestle the lead away from him.  The

first of these was Beau Stewart, who has

been one of the faster mini-sprints week in

and week out.  Stewart was poised to take the

lead away from Broughton but spun out, just

as he was going underneath Broughton

exiting turn 2.  Stewart was able to continue,

until crashing out a few laps later.  The next

couple of drivers to take their turns were Sam

Ashworth, and Scott Fasse.  They thrilled the

crowd as they went high and low trying to get

underneath Broughton.  On lap 14, Fasse, got

around Broughton bringing along Ashworth.

Fasse and Ashworth raced hard all the way to

the checkered flag to the delight of the fans.

Ashworth pulled to the inside of Fasse on the

white flag lap in turn 1, but got off the gas to

avoid wrecking both himself and Fasse.  With

that, Fasse was able to hold on and win for

the second time at the 3/8 mile Lawrenceburg

Speedway.  Fasse, and Gina Lowe were each

heat race winners. The AMSA mini-sprints

return to The Lawrenceburg Speedway on

Wednesday, June 24 during The Dearborn

County Fair.
