Gulick able to get it done on the dirt!

Coleman Gulick just turned 16 years old. Because of
that, he ran his first ever USAC Silver Crown race on
Friday night in Iowa. On Saturday, Gulick was back on
the dirt at The Lawrenceburg Speedway. The
Binghampton, NY Native found himself in Victory Lane
for the second time in his young career. 18
Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars were in action.
When the feature rolled off, Tim Spindler and Jonathan
Hendrick led the field to the drop of the green flag.
Hendrick was able to take the lead on lap 1 as Tim
Spindler flipped in turn 4. After flips by both Mike
Miller and JJ Hughes, the field would settle down
behind Hendrick and race under green for several
laps. Hendrick was moving well through the field, but
so was Coleman Gulick. Gulick caught Hendrick in
some lapped traffic and motored around Hendrick.
Hendrick continued to run the low line as Gulick found
his speed on the high side. When the dust settled
Gulick held on for his first win in 2009, and his second
overall at the Burg. Hendrick held on to second,
Andrew Elson was third, Joss Moffatt, and Chad
Boespflug rounded out the top 5. Heat race winners
were Tim Spindler, Jonathan Hendrick, and Chad
Boespflug. Point leader Joss Moffatt was able to
increase his lead in the point standings. Shawn
Westerfeld, the closest contender in the points, had
early race trouble but rallied back to finish 8. The
Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint cars return to the track
on Saturday August 8.

Lawrenceburg “kind” to Kinder

Chad Kinder is arguably one of the best modified
drivers in the midwest. Everywhere he goes, he is used
to winning. When he rolled his car onto the dirt track
at Lawrenceburg, he had his sights set on victory lane,
and with good reason. Kinder would start from the
outside of the front row and take the lead quickly on
lap 1. Pole sitter JD Largent and Joey Kramer got
together sending Kramer spinning. Both drivers would
retire from the event after being asked to leave the
track for rough driving. As the green flag flew again, it
appeared Kinder would cruise his way to victory lane.
But, the race did get exciting at the front as defending
track champion Jeff Harris followed Kinder’s tire
tracks turn for turn. Harris made the move around
Kinder and took the lead away from Kinder. Harris
had been trying lap after lap, and finally it paid off
and he became the leader. Just as he cleared the
Kinder car, the yellow flag flew. Harris would have to
fall back to second as scoring had not completed the
lap Harris had overtaken Kinder. With just a few laps
remaining, Harris was unable to mount any sort of
challenge on Kinder as Kinder lead from green to
checkered to pick up the feature win. Harris, who is
going for back to back track championships finished
second followed by Kyle Herbert, Derek Groomer, and
Scotty Mattlin. Heat race winners were JD Largent,
Kinder, Sean Johnson who got his first heat race win,
and Jeff Harris. Jason Largent won the B main. The
Budwesier UMP modifieds return to The Burg on
Saturday August 8.

Pat Weber is able to hold on!
Pat Weber always brings the fans to the track. Each
and every week they seem to get louder and louder,
and they sure did pick a good night to be loud and
proud! Defending track champion Mark Bruce would
start on the pole alongside Will McRoberts, the
current point leader. On the intial start, Bruce was
penalized for jumping the start and was asked to move
back one row to the inside of row 2. That move was all
that Pat Weber needed. Weber jumped to the lead and
led all 15 laps on his way to his first feature win!
Bruce was very tough, trying to pass Weber lap after
lap, but finally a flat right front with just a couple laps
remaining took Bruce out of contention for the victory.
The night belonged to Pat Weber. He lead the entire
feature race and held off Jake Robinson at the
checkered flag by a matter of feet! It was a great race
with lots of exciting action on the track. Following
Weber and Robinson across the line were Will
McRoberts, Rick Vance, and Dalton Baird. Heat race
winners were Mark Bruce, Will McRoberts, and Pat
Weber. The Ohio Valley Screenprinters Pure stocks
return to The Burg on Saturday August 8.
