Nothing Short about Short’s success!

Brady Short commented in victory lane about how excited he was to come back in 2 weeks for the $10,000 to winDick Gaines Memorial.  He had his #36 Short Racing Sprint Car hooked up and if he has the same run in 2 weeks, he just may be $10,000 richer.  When the night started, 19 Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprints were ready to compete.   17 cars lined up for the 25 lap feature event.  When the green flag dropped, John Memmer and Brady Short were beside each other to lead the field into turn 1.  It was a race into turn 1 and Brady Short would come away with the lead.  Short and Memmer were able to pull away from the rest of the field and as they caught the back of the field, Memmer was able to make several attempts to pass Short.  The lapped cars were helping Memmer stay close to Short but Memmer was unable to make the pass.  The yellow flag came out on lap 24 and was the only caution of the feature.  This would give Memmer one last attempt to get a run on Short.  Short was able to lead the final lap and take the checkered flag for his second win in 2009, and third since the track has been reconfigured.  Memmer finished second, followed by Mark Perry III, Dickie Gaines, and series point leader Joss Moffatt rounded out the top 5.  Moffatt increased his series point lead over Shawn Westerfeld who finished eighth.  Heat race winners were Memmer, Short, and Mark Perry III.  The Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprint Cars return to the Burg on September 5.

Ryan Braughton wins first AMSA feature!

Ryan Braughton has run very well in the past at

Lawrenceburg.  Unfortunately for him, bad luck had

kept him out of victory lane.  That would all change on

Saturday night as Braughton would basically

dominate the 20 lap ASA feature race.  If it wasn’t for a

great late race battle between Braughton and Sam

Ashworth, Braughton could have had the car on cruise

control.  Ashworth was able to get alongside

Braughton, even making contact with him a couple

different times.  Both cars were able to get righted

again and Braughton was able to get all the separation

he would need to put his car in victory lane for the

first time.  Behind Braughton and Ashworth, Doug

Jones, Hud Horton, and Scott Fasse rounded out the top

 5.  Series Point Leader, Beau Stewart would have

mechanical trouble

Harris wins in exciting fashion!

Defending Track Champion Jeff Harris has almost a 300 point lead over second place JD Largent.  If he keeps winning, he will win back-back track championships at Lawrenceburg.  Harris found himself in victory lane for the second time in 2009, as he padded his point lead.  Harris would start third in the feature even behind Derek Groomer who would lead from the drop of the green.  Groomer and Harris pulled away from most of the other modifieds and decided to settle this between themselves.  Harris spent the first 15 laps taking looks to the inside of Groomer but he was unable to make the move stick.  On lap 16, Groomer and Harris made contact side by side in turn 4 which caused Groomer’s right rear tire to go flat, eliminating him from the race.  With Harris now firmly in control, he would lead the final 4 laps on his way to the feature win.  Danville, Illinois driver BJ McCammon finished a strong second, followed by Rick Bingham, Jim Szekacs, and Mark Kowarsch.  Heat race winners were Groomer, Bingham, J. Szekacs, and Harris.  Eric Shepherd won the B Main.  There were 28 Budweiser UMP Modifieds at the track.  The Budweiser UMP modifieds return to the Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday August 22.

Weber and fans celebrate second feature win in a row!

It took Pat Weber a long time to get to victory lane at

Lawrenceburg.  After getting to Victory lane last week,

he found himself standing in victory lane again for the

second week in a row.  Not only did he win for the

second week in a row, he has unofficially taken over

the point lead in the Ohio Valley Screenprinters

Purestocks.  Weber would battle his way to the front

and trailed both Josh Phelps and Mark Bruce.  Phelps

would lead lap 1 but Bruce would pass him on lap 2.

Bruce, the defending track champion is always hard to

pass once he gets up front.  It was going to be a tough

task for either Phelps or Weber, unless something

would happen to Bruce.  That something did happen,

as something broke on Bruce’s car eliminating him

from the race.  Now all Weber had to do was get

around Phelps, and in just two laps he would succeed.

Pat Weber would take the lead on lap 6 and never

look back.  He would lead the final 10 laps to take the

checkered flag.  A very excited Weber celebrated in

victory lane with family and friends for the second

week in a row.  Finishing behind Weber, was Jake

Robinson, Rick Vance, Dalton Baird, and rookie

Corebin McRoberts.  All in all, 16 of 19 Purestocks

started the feature.  Heat races were won by Josh

Phelps, and Mark Bruce.  The Ohio Valley

Screenprinters Purestocks return to The Burg on

Saturday September 5.
