Rod Henning sets his sights on AMSA Point lead with fourth win

at Lawrenceburg!

Rod “Hot Rod” Henning found his way to victory lane on Saturday

night at The Lawrenceburg Speedway.  It was his fourth win at

the track in 2009, and his fifth this year in his quest for the 2009

AMSA championship.  Rod was coming off of a feature win the

night before at Moler Raceway, and was closing in on the point

lead after his two feature wins this past weekend.  33 AMSA mini

sprints checked in back in the pit area to race at the Burg.  The

20 lap feature would take the green with Andy Bradley and Rod

Henning on the front row.  Bradley’s car would break at the start

causing a chain reaction accident which would eliminate 6 cars

including Bradley.  The red flag would wave as the safety crew

attended to all the drivers involved including Nathan

Mensendiek who had to be removed from his car.  He was

transported to a local hospital for treatment.  After the track

was cleaned up, the lineup, down to 13 cars would take the

green.  Rod Henning took the lead into turn 1 and would never

look back.  Ryan Broughton would race as hard as he could to

keep up with Henning, but Henning was just too strong and led

all 20 laps.  Broughton finished second, followed by Sam

Ashworth, Collin Ambrose, and Scott Fasse.  Heat race winners

were Broughton, Mensendiek, Henning and Bradley.  Boyd Wolff

won the semi feature.  With the AMSA point standings starting

to get tight, the series returns to the track on August 29 at KC

raceway, near Chillicothe, Ohio.  They will return to

Lawrenceburg on Friday September 11.

Babcock wins! thinks of winning big!

Wayne, Ohio native, Jeff Babcock looked like he would finish

second in the 20 lap Budweiser UMP modified feature.  That’s

because Chuck Griffis was looking to get rid of his bad luck and

put his modified in victory lane.  Griffis started on the pole and

jumped to the lead.  Babcock followed him for most of the race.

Restart after restart, Griffis was able to pull away from Babcock

and hold on to the lead.  Following a caution, on the restart,

Griffis opend up the inside allowing Babcock to pull alongside of

him and take the lead.  Griffis tried for several laps to re-take

the lead from Babcock, but Babcock was just too strong, and

lead the final 7 laps to take the checkered flag.  Babcock wants

to return to The Burg later this year and hopes to win some of

the bigger modified races still remaining on the Burg’s schedule.

Following Babcock and Griffis across the line were Ed Hounshell,

Ray Branscum, and Second place in points JD Largent.  Series

point leader and defending track champion Jeff Harris crashed

in his heat race, and had to transfer through the B main to make

the feature.  He charged from the back to front and was able to

finish a strong seventh place when the checkered flag fell.  Heat

race winners were Griffis, Rick Bingham, Babcock, and Rusty

Griffaw.  Pete Holt and Jeff Harris won the two B mains.  There

were 38 Budweiser UMP modifieds in competition at the track.

The Budweiser UMP modifieds return to The Lawrenceburg

Speedway On Friday August 28.
