Scotty Weir wins at Lawrenceburg!

Scotty Weir won at Lawrenceburg back in 2005, but had yet to

taste victory since the track has been reconfigured to the 3/8

mile.  Weir found himself in victory lane for the third time in his

short career.  Weir came from the third row in his #G1 Sprint Car

and won handily over several big name drivers who were

competing.  The 25 lap feature started with Brady Short and

Kevin Thomas, Jr. on the front row.  Burg regular, Shawn

Westerfeld led lap 1 but, Weir took control on lap 2 and never

looked back.  Brady Short already winner of 2 features at

Lawrenceburg in 2009 could only watch Weir lead the final 19

laps on his way to the victory.  Chris Windom came home in

third, followed by Ricky Williams and Hud Cone.  Lawrenceburg

Chevrolet Sprint Car point leader Joss Moffatt went to a backup

car early and could only salvage a 14 place finish.  Shawn

Westerfeld, finished in 8 place, so the point lead for Moffatt

decreases as they head to the final points race of the year

coming up on Saturday September 19.  Heat race winners on the

night were Brady Short, Kevin Thomas, Jr., Hud Cone, Shawn

Westerfeld, and Scotty Weir.  The B main winners were Ricky

Williams and Ted Hines.  The final point’s race for The

Lawrenceburg Chevrolet Sprints is coming up on September 19.

Corbin picks up “Monster” Win in the Monster Modified!

The largest modified car count of the 2009 season came out to

The Burg for one of the biggest modified races of the year, The

Budweiser Monster Modified 40.  49 total cars in all, and some

of the biggest modified drivers in the midwest raced, along with

all the Burg regulars.  With the passing points system in effect

for this special race, the drivers were trying to gain the most

points by passing the most cars they could, and by finishing as

high as they could in their respective heat race.  The top 16

drivers in points after the heat races would start that way in the

40 lap, $1500 to win Monster Modified.  Kent Robinson had no

trouble gaining the most points after starting ninth in his heat

race, and winning it.  So Robinson would start from the pole,

alongside the defending Monster Modified Champion, Joey

Kramer.  At the drop of the green flag, Robinson was able to

scoot away and lead the first 6 laps while holding off Kramer and

Rick Corbin.  On lap 7, Kramer made his move around the high

side and took the lead away from Robinson bringing along Rick

Corbin.  For the next 13 laps, Kramer showed why he was the

defending Monster Modified champion and it looked like he

would go back to back.  But the bad luck bit Kramer when the

caution flag waved on lap 20.  As the yellow flag flew, Kramer’s

engine spewed smoke, a sign that it would not last.  Kramer

pulled his car to the infield retiring from the race.  With Kramer

in the infield, that seemed like all Rick Corbin would need.  Rick

Corbin and Jeff Babcock raced side by side for the final few laps,

but luckily for Corbin, he was able to hold on and win his first

Monster Modified feature.  Jeff Babcock was second followed by

Kent Robinson, Daryl Herbert who came from the B main to

finish in the top 5 and Chris Stotts who came from the 18

starting position.  Heat race winners were Robinson, Kramer,

Corbin, Ted Nobbe, Jeff Harris, and Trent Green.  The B main

winners were Chris Stotts and Derek Groomer.  Jeff Harris

continues to lead the Budweiser UMP modified point standings

by a comfortable margin.  The Budweiser UMP Modifieds return

to The Burg next Friday and Saturday nights alongside the Allstar

Circuit of Champions and the AMSA mini-sprints.

OHIO VALLY SCREENPRINTERS PURSTOCKS

Vanosdol wins, to get set up for Fun Fest!

Cody Vanosdol was obviously excited to be in the victory lane at

Lawrenceburg, but he admitted he was there to check out the

setup on his car, and to get ready for the annual Fun Fest event

coming up in October.  26 cars were at the burg to compete for

the Ohio Valley Screenprinters Purestocks.  All eyes were on Pat

Weber as the green flagged dropped on the 15 lap feature

event.  This was because Pat Weber was going for 3 feature wins

in a row, and because he had won the previous 2, he would

start from the tail of the feature due to OVS Purestocks rules.

Vanosdel would lead lap 1, but he would battle with Mickey

Hines for much of the race as the two drivers swapped the lead

several times.  But Vanosdel would lead the most important lap,

the last one on his way to the victory at Lawrenceburg.

Rounding out the top 5 was Mickey Hines, Shawn McIntosh,

Brent Howard, and Will Mcroberts.  Series point leader Pat

Weber drove his way through the field and was poised to come

away with a good finish when he spun on the white flag lap and

finished 14.  The point standings should be very close between

Pat Weber and Will McRoberts when they are officially

released.  The track championship will come down to the final

race of the season and that race will take place Saturday

September 19.
