LAWRENCEBURG SPEEDWAY
LAWRENCEBURG, INDIANA
SEPTEMBER 12, 2009
“ Camargo, IL (9-12-09) Kelly Brown Public Relations Director: At the beginning of the night Dale Blaney would have to make a quick engine change after qualifying, just to compete in tonight's O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions race at Lawrenceburg Speedway.
After that small set back, Blaney would recover to place second in the heat race, third in the dash and finally the top spot in the second night of the Hoosier Fall Classic, taking home the $10,000 prize.
At the drop of the initial Green Flag in tonight's main event, Dale Blaney got the jump on the field with the battle for third going three wide, but before the full lap could be scored there would be a melee on the track. Coming off of Turn 4, Butch Schroeder and Ronnie Blair would get together, leaving Blair on his wing and bringing out the Red Flag
On the restart, Dale Blaney did not get the advantage as outside pole sitter David Gravel was on point. Gravel and Blaney would drive the first lap side-by-side before Gravel would get the edge at the line. While Gravel and Blaney were duking it out for the lead, Randy Hannagan and Daron Clayton were having a fierce battle for third. The duo would go side-by-side before Clayton got the edge. At the front Blaney slid under Gravel in the fourth turn, to take the lead on Lap 2.
The battle for third was one of the best ones early on with Hannagan, Clayton, and Tim Shaffer going three wide for the position. The trio would go side-by-side, exchanging positions in every corner until the eighth circuit of the oval. On Lap 8, Shaffer would take his 83 sprint car down on the inside to make it three wide, but Shaffer lost it spinning on the inside of Turn 4 and brought out the Yellow Flag, sending Shaffer to the back of the pack.
On the restart, it was Blaney, Clayton, Hannagan, Gravel and Danny Smith pacing the field. When the Green Flag flew Blaney would check out, leaving Clayton and Hannagan to go back at it for second. Hannagan would eventually win that battle as Gravel fell into the clutches of Smith and fell back to fifth. When the front runners began encountering lapped traffic on Lap 11, Blaney would have the edge slicing through lapped traffic effortlessly. Hannagan would meet a little more opposition in traffic not getting through it quite as well.
In traffic, Smith would catch Clayton for third and they would go side-by-side to decide the position. Smith would get the edge. Meanwhile Dean Jacobs was moving his way into the top-five from his 21st starting position. On Lap 22 the Yellow Flag would fly again when Kody Kinser spun in Turn 4.
On the restart two lapped cars would separate the top two cars. Hannagan would quickly clear those cars and begin chasing down the 2 of Blaney. On Lap 25, another caution period would be caused by the 89g of David Gravel when he came to a stop with a flat right rear in Turn 1.
On the restart, it would be Blaney setting sail with Hannagan, Jacobs, Smith, and Conley in the top five. In the closing laps, Brandon Wimmer would come on strong. He would begin by getting past Conley for fifth. He started to work on Smith but another Yellow Flag would come out for Kody Kinser on Lap 31. This time the young driver did a 360 in Turn 2 with a flat right rear tire.
With four laps to decide the winner Blaney, Hannagan, Jacobs, Smith, and Wimmer would make up the top-five. In those four circuits of the track, Wimmer would catch and pass Smith to take over fourth. Blaney celebrated for the second night in a row in Victory Lane at Lawrenceburg Speedway. This would be Blaney's third consecutive win at Lawrenceburg Speedway as he won last night and the race and championship at this event last year. Overall this is Blaney?s sixth win at the Hoosier track.
On the last lap Tim Shaffer would pick up the sixth position cementing himself as the 2009 track champion, after coming from the tail of the field. Shaffer would begin his championship bid back in February during Florida Speedweek. The Steel City Outlaw would win the first event of the season at Ocala Speedway then would go on to score six more victories at: his home track Lernerville Speedway, Elkins Speedway, Millstream Speedway, Fremont Speedway, Hartford Speedway and most recently at Hilltop Speedway.
Quotes
Winner Dale Blaney "Got to thank George Fischer and the guys. We blew up a motor on the second lap of qualifying and got that thing changed. The crew did a great job getting that done. We were in the first heat race, so they really had to bust it to get the car back out there? The track was good. There were a couple of lanes in three and four and there was a lane in one in two if you were really good. I got around some lapped traffic using that one. Randy put his nose inside me on that one restart with about ten laps to go, because I did not go into there as hard as I should have. Everything worked out good? It is awesome anytime you can take home $10,000 to win a race. It is the second year we won this thing and last year we won the championship here last year, so I really like this place."
Second Place Randy Hannagan "You never want to finish behind Dale Blaney, but when you put him on the front row with a George Fisher racecar, you have yourself a race. They did a great job and my team did a great job. We just ran second. We just seem to miss it by a little each time. Maybe we will get one of these one of these times. I have to thank my team, my wife and my brother. I wish my little guy Mason was here with me. I really miss him a lot right now. We just ran second and that is the way it goes sometimes...I have to thank all the fans here tonight for supporting winged sprint car racing in Indiana. It is non-wing country and hopefully we can get some of the non-winged fans to come out and show them our type of racing."
Third Place Dean Jacobs "When this track was a little race track I came from the back several times, but I did not think it would be possible when they made it into this race track. My buddy Matt who works on this thing got it running really nice and the cautions seemed to fall our way. Lo and behold there we were. I thought maybe we could get another place on the last restart, but the top two were running really good. So we are very happy to come from the back and pick up third."
2009 O'Reilly All Star Champion Tim Shaffer "It has been a great year. The guys did a great job all year long. I have great owners and a great team. It hasn?t hit me, it is going to be awhile, but it is pretty awesome. It was pretty amazing how things came together. When I talked to Brian for the first time it was day one when we started working together. We sat down and talked for hours and hours. The communication was incredible. We wanted to do the same things. It was a great relationship to put together. There are not a lot of deals that you can communicate like that with and it makes you a great team. We are looking forward to 2010."

Gabbert visits victory lane, after finding his way into track!
Russ Gabbert had not been to Lawrenceburg since the track was
shaped liked a bullring in its quarter mile configuration. After
his victory Saturday night, he will most likely want to return
again soon to The Burg! Gabbert’s night started out interesting
enough when he couldn’t figure out how to get back to the pit
area, even going to the wrong entrance before finding his way
in. The 20 lap feature took the green with Joey Kramer and Rick
Corbin on the front row. Action occurred quickly as Rick Corbin
spun in turn 2 on lap one. Corbin was able to continue but Jeff
Babcock and Michael Poe made contact with Corbin and were
forced to retire from the race. With Corbin and Babcock
eliminated it appeared Joey Kramer would cruise to another
feature victory. There was no question that Kramer’s car was
quick, but the car of Gabbert was moving his way through the
field. Gabbert caught Kramer and made the move around him to
take the lead. Kramer fought hard on the outside, and retook
the lead. Gabbert, who was working the low line, was finally
able to clear Kramer who was running the high line. With
Gabbert in the lead, it appeared he would cruise on in for the
victory, but he had scare of his own. With 2 laps remaining,
smoke started billowing from his car, and it appeared the motor
was going away. Gabbert was able to lead the final 2 laps and
win the race. It turned out the smoke was coming from a broken
power steering belt. Kramer finished second, followed by Rick
Bingham, Matt Hamilton, and soon to be 2009 Track Champion
Jeff Harris. Gabbert said in victory lane he was hoping to come
back in October to race at The Dirt Track World Championship.
Heat race winners were Kramer, Corbin, Babcock, and Marty
O’Neal. The B main was won by Justin Westerfeld. The
Budweiser UMP Modifieds return next Saturday for the final
points night of the 2009 season.

Henning is closing in on point lead, but time is not on his side!
At the end of the night, Rod Henning was standing in victory lane
again. For the fourth time in 2009, he was the class of the field
at The Burg. With just 1 race remaining, the point lead is
tightening between point leader Beau Stewart, and Rod
Henning. Henning was certainly on cruise control as he took the
lead on lap 1 and never looked back. Henning lead all 20 laps as
he dominated the feature race. Series point leader, Beau
Stewart struggled and finished seventh. Following Henning
across the line was Sam Ashworth, Seth Wilkerson, Jacob
Wilson, and Drew Pollock. Heat race winners for the mini sprints
were Beau Stewart, and Jacob Wilson. The 2009 AMSA
championship will come down to the final race coming up on
October 3 at The Lawrenceburg Speedway. Stewart and Henning
will settle the championship amongst themselves, and you
won’t want to miss it!
