Andretti Picks up Second Feature Win!

Jarrett Andretti is seeking his first career track championship. After picking up his second career win at Lawrenceburg this season, he finds himself in a good position to win the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Car Track Championship. Andretti started on the pole but outside pole sitter, CJ Leary took the lead. Early on in the feature, Leary slapped the wall hard in turn 4. He was able to keep going but the caution was already waving for Leary. By rule, Leary was the reason for the caution so he was sent to the tail. Leary’s problems would continue. On the following restart, his car would not turn and a mechanical problem forced Leary to retire from the event. That turned the lead over to Andretti who paced the field for several laps before Jordan Kinser was able to pass Andretti for the lead. Kinser would lead for several laps while Andretti and now third place running Justin Grant were gaining on the leader. Andretti was able to pass Kinser with 4 laps remaining. It was Andretti’s second win of the year and allows him to increase his lead in the chase for the track championship. The rest of the top 5 were Justin Grant, Jordan Kinser, Garrett Abrams, and Dickie Gaines. Heat race winners were Leary and Kinser. The sprint cars return on Saturday July 30th for The Jason Soudrette Memorial.

David Spille picked up his first feature win of the season in the Budweiser UMP Modifieds. He would start alongside Kyle Schornick the pole sitter. The two would battle it out before Spille was able to secure the top spot and take command of the feature. Spille would win for the 3rd time at Lawrenceburg but the first time this year. The rest of the top 5 were Kyle Schornick, Scotty Kincaid, Billy Workman Jr., and Slater McCray. Workman Jr. had to start from the tail after being involved in a wreck in the heat race. His teammate, 14-year-old Slater McCray, the grandson of former Nascar driver, Ron Hornaday Jr. came home in 5th. Heat race winners Spille and Schornick. Scotty Kincaid leads the point by 35 over David Spille. The modifieds return to the Burg next Saturday July 30th.

Dalton Smith has been one of the dominate cars this year in the Hornet class. One this night he showed that again. Adam Love would start on the pole and lead the first several laps, Smith was quicker and was able to wait for Love to open the inside lane for Smith to take the lead. Once Smith got out front, he was only challenged once on a restart where Love was able to pull alongside but Smith was able to hold him off. Smith would win for the 3rd time this year. The rest of the top 5 were Andrew Jones, Gage Clark who came from the tail, Michelle Baird and rookie Bradley Eberhardt. Adam Love broke coming to the checkered flag while running second. He would finish 10th. Heat race winners were Eberhardt, and Smith. The Besslers U Pull N Save Hornets point standings have Dalton Smith and Gage Clark tied for the top spot. The hornets will be back on Saturday July 30th.
