Inside Line Promotions – LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 30, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi is grateful for an opportunity to venture east for a weekend of action with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions and World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“It was cool to get the call to go race in good equipment with the McGhee Family,” he said. “I met those guys a couple of years ago and when the opportunity presented itself I jumped on it. I want to thank them for having me race for them.”

Scelzi drove the No. 11 sprint car of Max McGhee during a trio of races beginning last Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio. He timed in second quickest in his group before a fourth-place finish in a heat race lined him up on the inside of the 10th row for the All Star A Main.

“We had a really fast car,” he said. “In the heat race we struggled with brakes and made some changes to try to fix the problem. It actually made it worse so we didn’t have brakes. I pulled off about six or seven laps into the feature.”

Scelzi was credited with a 23rd-place result.

Saturday’s All Star event at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, rained out. Scelzi headed to Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio, on Sunday for the inaugural Bob Hampshire Classic. He timed in seventh quickest in his group, but rallied from seventh to fifth place in a heat race to lock into the 19th starting position in the main event.

“We were extremely fast and had good speed,” he said. “We went forward the first five laps. As the brakes started to go we backed up until I pulled off.”

Scelzi, who ended 23rd, wrapped up the weekend on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway during the Memorial Day Spectacular presented by KOI Auto Parts with the World of Outlaws. He qualified 19th quickest overall and advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race to start the main event on the inside of the eighth row.

“We completely changed everything on the brakes, but the mount for the left front caliper was a different brand so it made the caliper bottom out on the rotor and it welded together,” he said. “It was frustrating that we didn’t get the results for the team, but that’s part of racing sometimes.”

Scelzi was credited with a 22nd-place finish.

He will take this weekend off before his family owned team heads to the Midwest for the summer. Scelzi’s next race is June 7-9 at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., during the 40th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals with the World of Outlaws.
