Inside Line Promotions – LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (June 1, 2021) – Most of Monday evening went well for David Gravel until the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series main event started at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

The Big Game Motorsports driver qualified third quickest, won a heat race and advanced from sixth to fifth place in the dash to line up on the inside of the third row for the feature.

“It started off good,” Gravel said. “We had a good pill draw, qualified good and were able to win the heat race to get into the dash. We didn’t get a favorable draw, but in a six-car dash it’s not a big deal.

“The track was pretty rough and pretty wet. We lost a couple of spots on the start of the main event. Then we fell in line. Later in the race there was a caution and the right rear felt pretty low. A red came out and the tire got too low so we had to change it. I went into the work area and we got it changed in time. We went back out and something happened to the engine so I pretty much just limped it to the finish.”

Gravel spent most of the race battling between eighth and ninth place before the late-race trip to the work area made him restart last among lead-lap drivers. He salvaged the night with a 12th-place result.

“The first half of the night went well,” he said. “The worst time for something to happen is the feature and that’s when it all happened. It’s just part of it.”

Gravel is looking forward to a pair of World of Outlaws races this weekend with action on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., for the Gerdau Presents the 1st Leg of the Northern Tour and on Saturday at Granite City Motor Park in Sauk Rapids, Minn., for the GMC Select Dealers of Minnesota Presents the World of Outlaws.

“River Cities is a tough track,” he said. “We’ve had some solid finishes there and I’ve won there.

“I had a really good battle with Brad (Sweet) the last time we were in Sauk Rapids and ran second. It’s pretty fun as well. I’m looking forward to two fun tracks this weekend.”
